Step Into the Studio
If you’ve ever wished you could make clothing that actually fits your body—without altering commercial sewing patterns—this course is your perfect starting point. Introduction to Patternmaking: The Skirt Foundation walks you step-by-step through drafting your very first custom skirt foundation pattern (otherwise known as a sloper or block pattern) from scratch. Clear, confidence-building guidance designed for thoughtful beginners.

We’ll begin with taking accurate body measurements. You’ll learn how to measure yourself with clarity, consistency, and zero second-guessing. We’ll learn about wearing ease, and how to apply more ease at the hip than the waist. Then, we’ll input those figures into the lovely Measurement Worksheet, which does all calculations for you!

From there, you’ll learn what social-media patternmakers often skip over: how to finish your pattern so it’s clean, accurate, and ready for construction. We’ll cover trueing your lines, labeling your pattern pieces, adding grainlines and seam allowances, marking notches, placing awl punches, and preparing your pattern like a pro.

In Introduction to Patternmaking, you’ll walk away with a beautifully drafted skirt block tailored to your unique measurements.
  • In Introduction to Construction, we’ll construct the skirt together.
In Introduction to Fitting, we’ll fit and refine the pattern so you achieve the personalized, body-honoring fit you’ve always wanted.

If you’re ready to finally understand patternmaking—and enjoy the process—this is where your journey begins.
