MODULE 6
Measurements
Standard Measurements

In this lesson, we’ll trace the history of standard body measurements. You’ll learn why standardized sizing made ready-to-wear possible, yet leaves so many of us frustrated in fitting rooms. Then, we’ll pivot to the good part: how taking your own accurate measurements becomes the key to clothes that finally fit you instead of some imaginary “average” body.

Taking Measurements

In this hands-on lesson, you’ll learn how to take clear, accurate body measurements — so your patterns reflect your real, beautiful proportions. We’ll walk step-by-step through waist, hip, and tummy measurements (or low and high hip). Think of it as the moment you finally meet your body as a patternmaker does: with curiosity, clarity, and zero judgment.

Wearing Ease

In this lesson, you’ll learn why we don’t draft directly from our raw body measurements—and how a little something called Wearing Ease makes every garment more comfortable, more wearable, and more “you.” We’ll explore how different ease amounts create tighter or roomier silhouettes, and why you might choose more space at the hips but less at the waist.
