MODULE 6
The Sewing Machine
Sewing Machine Exploring

In this lesson, you’ll get a little overview of the sewing machine. You’ll learn the difference between hand-sewn running stitches and the machine’s lockstitch, how the needle and bobbin threads work together, and how feed dogs move the fabric for you. You should grab your own machine's manual for this one!

Sewing Machine Threading

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to wind a bobbin, inserting it correctly, and thread your machine. I’ll walk you through the flow on my own machine while encouraging you to follow along with your manual, since every model has its quirks. By the end, both your upper thread and bobbin thread will be neatly in place, your needle will be threaded, and you’ll be ready to start stitching with confidence.

Sewing Machine Troubleshooting

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to quickly diagnose and fix the most common sewing machine hiccups—skipped stitches, broken thread, crooked seams, and that ever-mysterious tension drama. You’ll walk through a clear checklist of what to inspect (needle, threading, thread type, stitch plate, and more) and learn how to fine-tune your tension in small adjustments using two different thread colors for easy visibility.
